Rotations #2 is the second exhibition in two years which Astrup Fearnley Museum of Modern Art has produced based on the 'rotation' concept. We use the concept to put special focus on our own collection. In selecting works from our rich holdings, the aim is to create new dynamics and to show the works in new, surprising constellations that cut across historical, geographical, conceptual and thematic categories. The exhibition concept underscores the non-linear structure and 'alphabetical', artist-based character of the Astrup Fearnley Collection – here the individual artistic practices take centre stage.

In order to present this wide-ranging and rich artistic material, we have chosen to include many narrative voices. In all 53 artworks by 40 artists are presented and discussed by 14 writers, all of whom belong to Astrup Fearnley Museum’s staff. In this way we seek to challenge one another and to inspire readers to create their own stories with new emergent meaning.
